DUBAI: Dubai Municipality has suspended two engineering consultancy firms for six months after discovering they had breached professional norms, ethical standards, and licensing regulations. The decision was taken by the Committee of Registration and Licensing the Practice of Engineering Consultancy & Contracting, which found the violations detrimental to property owners and developers in the emirate.

According to the Municipality, this step aligns with its broader regulatory role in maintaining high standards in Dubai’s engineering consultancy sector. The two firms are now barred from licensing any new projects during the suspension period.

Dubai Municipality regularly carries out inspection visits to engineering offices across the city to monitor their compliance with approved professional and legal standards. These assessments help uphold the quality and integrity of engineering services throughout the construction sector.

In a parallel development, the Municipality revealed plans to overhaul its ‘Contracting Companies and Engineering Consultancy Offices Evaluation System’ by 2026. This new system will introduce an advanced, performance-based framework including indicators such as financial stability, Emiratisation efforts, delivery timelines, commitment to innovation, and client feedback.

Eng. Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency, stated that these changes will contribute to improving service quality, boosting global competitiveness, and fostering transparency in the selection of consultancy and contracting firms. Stakeholders will be able to evaluate service providers through surveys on the ‘Build in Dubai’ platform.

She emphasised that ongoing collaboration with industry professionals is key to the system’s development. The municipality intends to hold regular dialogue sessions to gather input and ensure the updated framework reflects the practical needs of the sector.

This move signals Dubai’s commitment to transforming its construction sector into a smarter, more sustainable industry aligned with international benchmarks.
