SHARJAH: American University of Sharjah (AUS) proudly celebrated the graduation of 794 students at its Spring 2025 Commencement Ceremony held at University City Hall, graced by the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of AUS.
The event marked a milestone in the university’s journey, honouring a diverse class of students representing 47 nationalities. In heartfelt addresses, Sheikha Bodour and Chancellor Dr. Tod Laursen praised graduates for their determination, resilience and global outlook. “They leave AUS with not only academic excellence, but also the courage, empathy and purpose to lead in uncertain times,” said Sheikha Bodour.
Adding inspiration, guest speaker and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Emi Mahmoud urged graduates to use their education as a force for meaningful change in the world.
Highlighting the university’s commitment to excellence, AUS conferred an honorary doctorate on Dr. Manahel Thabet for her global contributions to AI and economics. A Guinness World Record holder and recipient of numerous international accolades, Dr. Thabet exemplifies innovation and leadership in scientific development.
The ceremony also marked the first graduating cohorts of AUS’ new master’s programmes in International Studies and Machine Learning. The Spring 2025 class included 123 graduate and 671 undergraduate students, with 184 UAE nationals and a strong representation of women—447 female graduates to 347 male.
Top student honours included the President’s Cup awarded to four outstanding achievers, and the Chancellor’s Cup presented to Fahad Mahmoud for exemplary academic and personal merit. Student speakers Kareem Hijazi and Ahmed Ayman delivered moving reflections on growth, gratitude and responsibility.
With new degrees in hand and values deeply rooted in AUS traditions, the graduates now join a vibrant alumni network making a global impact.
