The UAE’s 14th campaign enhances heat exhaustion awareness, supporting 10,000 workers and 500,000 residents this summer.

Sharjah: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with the Health Promotion Department at the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs, has launched the 14th Heat Exhaustion and Disease Prevention Campaign. Under the theme “Your Safety is Our Priority,” the campaign aims to raise heat exhaustion awareness and provide vital health services to workers and the wider community during the summer.

Starting 3 July, the initiative coincides with the UAE’s midday work ban and aligns with the Year of the Community. This year’s campaign targets 10,000 workers through on-ground services and half a million residents via digital outreach. It expands its reach beyond labourers to include delivery drivers, municipal staff, engineers, and families.

The campaign will feature medical check-ups, awareness lectures, and emergency first aid training. Free screenings will include glucose tests, eye exams, and blood pressure monitoring. Workers will also receive protective gear, hydration support, and educational materials in multiple languages.

Launched at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the campaign is supported by numerous public and private organisations. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Director of MoHAP’s Sharjah Office, emphasised the drive’s alignment with WHO standards and the UAE’s broader goal of creating safer, healthier work environments.

Public-private collaboration is at the campaign’s core, engaging entities like Emirates Health Services, Sharjah Police, Labour Standards Development Authority, Sharjah Coop, and leading hospitals such as Zulekha, Aster, NMC, and Burjeel.

Director Iman Rashid Saif, representing the Health Promotion Department, affirmed that the campaign reflects the directives of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who advocates for vulnerable communities. Saif highlighted the importance of hydration, sun protection, and healthy nutrition in preventing heat-related illnesses.

Through virtual seminars, media broadcasts, and field visits across Sharjah, this campaign amplifies heat exhaustion awareness and health protection. It represents the UAE’s deep commitment to worker safety, sustainability, and shared responsibility for public health.
