Dubai: WoWomen may be queens of their kitchens at home, but a top Dubai eatery is helping break stereotypes this Women’s Day by handing one woman a chance to boss over its kitchens for a day.

Ahead of the International Women’s Day on March 8, Jafferbhai’s restaurant – consistently voted Dubai’s top biryani joint – is inviting its patrons to submit a recipe of their choice on its social media platforms. The winner will have the opportunity to lead the team of Jafferbhai’s award-winning chefs on Tuesday at its Karama outlet to create and serve the signature dish. “Running a restaurant kitchen has largely remained a male bastion but time has now come for those glass walls to break. If a woman can boss over her kitchen at home, she can as well lead a team of chefs in a restaurant and I want them to showcase this with pride this week,” says Moin Jaffer Mansuri, the second-generation owner of the famous label established in Mumbai in the seventies.

“We are offering the winning woman the chance to completely take over our kitchens, lead our team and serve our customers anything of their choice. It could be a biryani they make for their kids at home or a mandi they learnt to make watching their mum,” adds Mansuri, who now divides his time between his flagship restaurant in Karama and his second outlet in Al Barsha.

So how does one participate in this mouth-watering, one-of-its-kind campaign launched specifically for Women’s Day? “It’s simple,” says Mansuri. “All you must do is share your recipe and tag @jafferbhai’s handle on Instagram and Facebook using hashtag #ZaykaeAurat,” he explains how a passionate chef will get to work alongside Jaffer’s team of culinary experts to create her own version of Biryani with a twist of special secret ingredients and masalas that will add a Zayka-e-Aurat to the restaurant’s world-famous recipe. “I will personally go through the entries and rate each recipe on its novelty and concept,” adds Mansuri, who picked early lessons in making dum biryani from his father often dubbed ‘The Biryani King of Mumbai’.

The deadline to send in entries is midnight of March 7 before one lucky woman walks away with the chance to perfect her recipe in the kitchens of Jafferbhai’s for the day. The limited-edition dish will be served on the day to all customers at Jafferbhai’s.
