HH Sheikh Mohammed launched the Dubai Metro Blue Line project featuring the world’s highest station, Emaar Properties Station. The 30 km line will connect nine districts, boost connectivity for over a million residents, and enhance Dubai’s sustainability goals, economic growth, and mobility under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Dubai: HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has officially laid the foundation stone of the Dubai Metro Blue Line. Spanning 30 km and comprising 14 stations—including three interchange hubs at Al Jaddaf, Al Rashidiya, and International City 1—the line is a cornerstone of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The highlight is the Emaar Properties Station at Dubai Creek Harbour. Standing at 74 metres, it will be the world’s tallest metro station, accommodating 160,000 passengers daily. Designed by American firm SOM (of Burj Khalifa fame), it is a gateway-themed architectural marvel, with sustainable materials and iconic lighting that transforms it into a nighttime landmark.
The Blue Line will connect nine districts with a projected population of over one million, including Mirdif, Al Warqa, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, and International City. It will support 50,000 university students by 2029 and is expected to serve 320,000 daily passengers by 2040.
Notably, the project includes a 1.3 km viaduct—the first to cross Dubai Creek—and the network’s largest underground interchange station, spanning 44,000 sq m. The entire metro system will then expand to 131 km with 78 stations and 168 trains.
The line aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and aims to deliver AED56.5 billion in projected benefits by 2040. It supports the vision of a “20-minute city,” offering direct access to Dubai International Airport within 20 minutes and cutting congestion by 20%.
As Dubai’s fifth major transit project, the Blue Line meets Platinum green building standards and integrates seamlessly with buses, taxis, and e-scooter facilities.
