Dubai Airports, in partnership with Al Jalila Foundation’s Ta’alouf Programme, hosts guided travel simulation for children with autism, enhancing inclusive travel at DXB.

Dubai: Dubai Airports has partnered with Al Jalila Foundation’s Ta’alouf Programme to organise a guided travel simulation at Dubai International Airport (DXB) for children with autism spectrum disorder. Held as part of the UAE’s Year of Community, the initiative aims to prepare children and their families for the realities of air travel while promoting accessibility and inclusion at one of the world’s busiest airports.

The Ta’alouf Programme, run by Al Jalila Foundation—the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health—focuses on empowering families and educators of people of determination. Over 13 years, it has provided essential training to support individuals with conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, and developmental delays. The programme nurtures integration, turning daily challenges into opportunities for growth.

The simulation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of oneDXB—a network of airport stakeholders—alongside caregivers, volunteers, and trained front-line staff. The hands-on experience covered key parts of the passenger journey, including check-in, passport control, security screening, and navigating boarding gates. Designed to reduce anxiety and sensory overload, the calm and controlled setting allowed participants to explore the airport and ask questions, creating familiarity and confidence for future travel.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said, “Accessibility is more than infrastructure—it’s about creating meaningful, empathetic experiences. Through initiatives like this, we strive to ensure every traveller feels supported at every step of their journey.”

Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, praised the partnership: “This initiative reflects our shared vision of preparing children and their families for inclusive travel, aligned with the UAE’s national policy for people of determination.”

Dubai Airports has earned global recognition for its inclusive efforts. DXB is the world’s first international airport certified as a Certified Autism Center (CAC) by the IBCCES. The “We All Meet the World Differently” campaign further reinforces its mission to support neurodivergent travellers through continuous staff training and accessible services.

This travel simulation is one of many efforts by Dubai Airports to ensure all passengers—regardless of ability—experience seamless and compassionate journeys.
