Biden is dropping out of US presidential race
Sun 21 Jul 2024WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden said on Sunday that he would withdraw from the presidential race.
“While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in a statement.
Biden, in a post on X, said he will remain in his role as president until his term ends in January 2025.
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. He added that he would address the nation later in the week in more detail about his decision.
