Dubai: Asia Pacific tourism is shaping the future of global travel, as highlighted at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025. With international travel from the region forecast to hit US$2.5 trillion by 2029, the APAC market is emerging as a powerful force. A projected CAGR of 7% through 2029 and a growing preference for experiential, digitally-driven travel underscore this evolution.

Intra-regional journeys will form 61% of trips by end-2025, while international travel outside APAC is also rising. Online bookings are expected to account for 75% of all transactions by 2029, showing a strong tilt toward digital platforms and mobile-first planning.

A high-impact panel moderated by China Daily’s Mingie Wang brought together industry leaders to explore Asia Pacific tourism trends. Insights from experts such as Alhasan Aldabbagh (Saudi Tourism), Boon Sian Chai (Trip.com), Shahab Shayan (Dubai DET), and Gary Bowerman revealed a focus on cultural immersion, digital content, and localisation.

Danielle Curtis, ATM’s Exhibition Director, noted, “More than 60% of APAC travellers plan trips around concerts or sports, with over 40% influenced by TikTok. Films and TV, like The White Lotus, have also sparked destination interest.”

Tourism Economics reports a projected 189% increase in tourism nights from China to the Middle East by 2030. APAC travellers also top global spend rates at US$300 per person per day, led by Chinese tourists’ strong buying power.

Dubai’s D33 agenda is helping tailor messaging through APAC-specific platforms like Red Note and Bilibili, supported by direct flights via Emirates and flydubai. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has adopted a hyper-localised strategy, adapting offers based on culture, cuisine, and consumer habits across the 49-country APAC landscape.

Technology, AI, and peer content continue to drive planning decisions, while sustainability remains a top concern among Gen Y and millennials. Trip.com’s research indicates 30–40% are willing to pay more for eco-friendly travel that supports local culture.

ATM, a global travel trade platform hosted annually in Dubai, returns to the Dubai World Trade Centre from 4–7 May 2026, facilitating growth and innovation across all sectors.
