DUBAI: The Future Food Forum 2024 was inaugurated today by His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy. He emphasized the UAE’s vital role in regional food security and sustainability, highlighting the Food Cluster Strategy aimed at enhancing these goals through public-private partnerships.
This two-day event, organized by the UAE Food & Beverage Business Group and supported by various entities, including the Dubai Chamber and DP World, focuses on the theme “Future Consumer, Future Government, and Future Food.” It aims to position the UAE as a leader in food security through innovation and technology.
In his speech, H.E. Al Marri discussed the Food Cluster Strategy launched last year, detailing over 20 initiatives designed to boost domestic food production and reduce import reliance from 90% to 50% by 2050. He mentioned a target of increasing the food sector’s GDP contribution by $10 billion and creating 20,000 jobs by 2030.
A ministerial discussion further explored collaborative strategies among key ministries to foster knowledge transfer and address industry challenges. A governing board for the food cluster was proposed to ensure effective implementation of strategic initiatives.
The UAE’s food trade statistics were also highlighted, showcasing a 20% growth in the sector, with food imports totaling $23 billion and exports at $6.6 billion last year.

Additionally, the UAE Foodverse was launched, a virtual platform to enhance collaboration in the food ecosystem. It will facilitate real-time data sharing and partnerships, featuring educational tools, VR workshops, and a virtual marketplace.
The agenda includes discussions on climate change, innovative technologies, and the empowerment of SMEs in the food and beverage sector, with support from major industry brands and the return of the ‘Free From Food Dubai’ exhibition.
