MoHAP and EHS host WHO SoWN 2025 launch, spotlighting UAE’s leadership in advancing the nursing profession UAE-wide.

Dubai: The UAE hosted the regional launch of the nursing profession UAE report — the State of the World’s Nursing (SoWN) 2025 — in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), led by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and Emirates Health Services (EHS).

Held virtually on 12 May 2025, the event aligned with International Nurses Day and convened healthcare experts across the region to discuss the future of the nursing workforce. The report outlines global challenges, including a projected shortage of 4.1 million nurses by 2030, and highlights five urgent policy actions.

H.E. Dr. Mohammed Al Olama, MoHAP Undersecretary, emphasised the UAE’s unique model in developing the nursing profession UAE through the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery 2022–2026. “This report recognises our innovative efforts in overcoming challenges and advancing healthcare workforce development,” he noted.

EHS Director-General H.E. Dr. Yousif Al Serkal reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to shaping the future of health professions: “We aim to ensure sustainability in healthcare systems and meet the ambitions of ‘We the UAE 2031’.”

Dr. Sumaya Al Blooshi, EHS Director of Nursing, highlighted the country’s structured framework and continuous investment in nursing education and leadership. She called the SoWN 2025 report a turning point in global recognition of nursing’s role in health system resilience.

The nursing profession UAE stands as a global example, leveraging digital platforms, AI, and institutional leadership to future-proof healthcare delivery while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.
