ABU DHABI: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced a record-breaking milestone achievement as the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre surpassed one million air traffic movements in 2024, highlighting the UAE’s global aviation prominence.

According to GCAA, this milestone reflects the UAE’s commitment to innovation, advanced infrastructure, and efficient air navigation services, solidifying its role as a leading aviation hub.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of GCAA, stated, “This achievement is not just numerical; it showcases the UAE’s dedication to aviation as a key economic driver and its ability to provide cutting-edge, integrated solutions.”

The milestone was reached on December 22, 2024, marked by the arrival of Emirates Flight305 from Shanghai, a historic moment celebrating years of innovation, planning, and collaboration within the aviation sector.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, added, “With 10.3% growth in 2024, we remain committed to enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in air traffic management.”

In 2024, the Centre implemented advanced systems and sustainable practices, boosting airspace capacity and reducing delays while supporting the UAE’s ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and “The Year of Sustainability.” This approach underscores the UAE’s leadership in environmentally conscious aviation advancements.

With over 20% growth in air traffic over two years, the UAE is poised to handle increasing volumes efficiently, driven by its skilled workforce, innovative technologies, and strategic location.

As the aviation industry rebounds post-pandemic, this achievement reflects the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre’s excellence in airspace management, setting benchmarks for innovation and sustainability in global aviation.
