ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Airports, which manages the five airports in the Emirate, has announced the launch of three new direct routes by the Indian airline IndiGo. These new routes will connect Zayed International Airport (AUH) with Mangaluru (IXE), Tiruchirappalli (TRZ), and Coimbatore (CJB) in India.
This new development enhances the connectivity between Abu Dhabi and major Indian destinations, increasing IndiGo’s total number of routes from Abu Dhabi to 13. The expansion not only adds more flight options but also strengthens ties between the two regions, benefiting both travellers and businesses.
Nathalie Jongma, Vice President of Aviation Development at Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, noting that it represents more than just additional flights. She highlighted how it will create better connections for families and friends, open new opportunities for businesses, and build on the successful partnership between Abu Dhabi Airports and IndiGo.
Sanjeev Ramdas, Executive Vice President of Airport Operations and Customer Services at IndiGo, commented that the new routes will bolster IndiGo’s presence in the region and emphasize Abu Dhabi’s crucial role as a key hub for travellers. This move reflects both airlines’ commitment to enhancing travel options and fostering strong regional connections.
IndiGo, the low-cost Indian airline, commenced operations from Abu Dhabi Airport on 1st November 2019, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion. Its is known for its budget-friendly fares and extensive domestic and international routes. This move expanded IndiGo’s reach beyond India and into the UAE, enhancing connectivity between the two regions.

The airline’s entry into Abu Dhabi was part of its strategy to grow its global network and cater to the increasing demand for travel between India and the Middle East.
