Abha: Abha International Airport is officially Saudi Arabia’s first silent airport. The airport authorities announced the decision to transform the airport into a silent one on Thursday. This means there will no longer be announcements regarding takeoff, boarding, last calls, and other passenger announcements.

The airport administration has embraced the silence and closed the last call loudspeakers, enhancing the typical environment free from the noise of announcements. This initiative aligns with best global practices observed at several international airports worldwide, such as Singapore Changi International Airport, Zurich International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Amsterdam International Airport, and London City International Airport.

The airport management announced that it will start to convey flight details during the boarding of passengers, who will now receive flight information through display screens and boarding gate displays, eliminating the need for vocal announcements. An awareness campaign on the silent airport initiative will include multilingual information boards and electronic notices to inform travelers about the absence of voice calls at the airport.

A voice call system will be installed in the coming months for emergency announcements, such as flight cancellations or delays, ensuring that important information is still communicated to passengers when necessary.

The airport administration hopes that relevant authorities will promote this initiative and encourage travelers to prepare for their journey through the silent airport of Abha using airline communication methods and monitoring flight information display screens. This change is designed to ensure a more enjoyable and stress-free trip without the typical noise and stress associated with travel.

It is important to note that silent airports aim to minimize background noise in terminals, creating a more peaceful environment for passengers. Unlike conventional airports with frequent disruptive announcements, silent airports restrict announcements to emergencies like lost children or flight delays.

In the main waiting areas, all announcements are banned, except within individual gate areas. This approach reduces noise pollution, allowing passengers to focus solely on critical information and enhancing the overall travel experience.
