GENEVA: Following the global emergency declaration on 14th August, WHO announced on Tuesday that it requires $87.4 million over six months, from September 2024 to February 2025, to collaborate with countries, partners, and stakeholders to stop the ongoing mpox outbreak.
In its latest appeal, WHO detailed that these funds will support critical activities outlined in the global strategic preparedness and response plan (SPRP), which was released on 26th August 2024. The SPRP is a comprehensive guide developed by WHO to manage the global response to mpox, focusing on surveillance, research, equitable access to medical countermeasures, and empowering communities.

The requested funds will be allocated across WHO headquarters, regional, and country offices to ensure coordinated efforts, provide technical support, manage operations, and deliver essential medical supplies. WHO is urging donors to swiftly fund the full mpox response to prevent further spread and protect vulnerable populations.
