DUBAI: Dubai Police held a sports day at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing Hub for around 120 young students as part of the ‘Positive Initiative’ community programme.

Under the patronage of His Excellency Lieutenant-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, the campaign aims to promote social harmony in residential neighbourhoods, with a combination of sports, wellbeing, and voluntary training.

Lieutenant Khalil Mirza Ahli, who oversaw the day’s activities at the Expo, said, “Through this activity at the Expo, we want them to know what is important for their health and how to develop a healthy lifestyle. We also want them to develop the value of knowing what is right and wrong and the importance of making correct decisions.”

The event was held in collaboration with Health Exercise and Research Centre (HERC). The centre’s CEO and Founder, Zeljko Banicevic, said a universal, research-and evidence-based method called Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) is being used to train young people.

Banicevic said the event “showcased the best way for the kids to be trained. Dubai Police came up with the idea so they approached us for the collaboration. We are hoping that this spills over to the schools. This model incorporates all sports activities under the same umbrella. We know precisely which activity should be used for each age group.”
