SHARJAH: The 43rd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024) concluded on a high note after attracting 1.82 million visitors from over 200 countries. Held from November 6-17, under the theme “It Starts with a Book”, the event reaffirmed its status as a global cultural hub. The fair hosted over 2,500 publishers and exhibitors from 108 countries, maintaining its top position as the world’s leader in publishing rights transactions for the fourth consecutive year, with 3,000 meetings held in just 48 hours.

Visitors from the UAE, India, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan were among the largest groups attending. The event saw a significant age range of visitors, with the largest segment being those aged 35 to 44 at 32.18%. Additionally, 135,000 students visited, showcasing the fair’s role in nurturing a reading culture among younger generations. The Book Signing Corner featured over 1,000 authors, unveiling their latest works.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, highlighted the emirate’s cultural commitment by allocating AED 4.5 million to enrich public and governmental libraries, supporting the acquisition of new Arabic and international titles.

Ahmed Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, emphasized the fair’s evolution into a dynamic cultural ecosystem that unites creators, readers, and all key stakeholders in literature and publishing.

Algerian author Ahlam Mosteghanemi was celebrated as Cultural Personality of the Year, and Morocco, as Guest of Honour, showcased its rich literary and cultural heritage. Over 85 Arab and Emirati writers, along with 49 international figures, participated in workshops, seminars, and panel discussions, marking another successful chapter for the Sharjah International Book Fair.
