DUBAI: Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, in partnership with Alserkal Arts Foundation, has launched Resonance, a striking site-specific art installation in Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. This initiative, part of the Dubai Public Art Strategy, aims to transform the city into an open-air gallery while enhancing its global artistic reputation.
Unveiled at the 13th Sikka Art & Design Festival under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Resonance is the work of graphic designer Maryam Namvar and architect Neda Salmanpour. The sculptural installation features three suspended metal panels that sway with the wind, reflecting light and echoing the rhythms of Dubai Creek, creating a sensory dialogue between past and present.
Curated by Munira Al Sayegh, the artwork draws from the district’s rich history, urban landscape, and cultural narratives. It symbolises Dubai’s continuous evolution through trade, architecture, and diverse communities.
Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of Arts, Design, and Literature at Dubai Culture, highlighted that public art plays a crucial role in Dubai’s creative ecosystem. “The Dubai Public Art Strategy empowers talent to express artistic visions while integrating the emirate’s heritage into contemporary culture,” he noted.
Namvar and Salmanpour explained that Resonance captures the essence of Al Shindagha’s history through contemporary artistic mediums. “We hope it becomes a pause in the city’s pace, evoking emotion and conversation,” they said.
This installation is the first of three public art projects by Dubai Culture and Alserkal Arts Foundation, with future pieces planned for Al Quoz Creative Zone and Hatta, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to artistic excellence and cultural storytelling.
