New Arabic postpartum support book by The Dreamwork Collective helps break mental health taboos among Arab mothers.
Dubai: The Dreamwork Collective has released an Arabic edition of This is Postpartum, offering vital Arabic postpartum support during Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week. Originally published in English in 2020, the book is authored by therapist Tilda Klumpenaar and addresses the unspoken realities of postpartum depression (PPD) in a relatable, light-hearted tone.
Drawing from her personal experience with PPD, Klumpenaar created the book to help new parents regain confidence and emotional balance. “When I went through postpartum depression, I felt so guilty and ashamed… I felt so lonely,” she shared. Her goal was clear: to help even one mother out of isolation through shared stories and simple guidance.
This Arabic edition arrives at a critical time, aiming to normalise maternal mental health conversations in the region. As Klumpenaar explains, “The topic is a big taboo in Arab culture. Even in my own country, the Netherlands, Arab moms don’t speak much about PPD. This translation means the world to me.”
Written with honesty and a touch of humour, the book includes stories from other mothers and practical tips that resonate widely. Klumpenaar believes in keeping expectations realistic: “You don’t have to be the perfect parent; being a good one is good enough.”
The release is part of a broader mission by The Dreamwork Collective to support Arabic postpartum support literature and empower women across the Middle East. The publisher hopes this timely translation will foster empathy, awareness, and emotional resilience in Arabic-speaking families.
This is Postpartum is now available through The Dreamwork Collective’s platforms.
