ABU DHABI: A select group of professional and amateur anglers will cast their lines for glory in the Yas Grand Kingfish Championship 2025, competing for a massive AED 1.16 million prize pool. The event will take place from April 25 to 27, under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Marine Sports Federation and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club (ADMSC).
Celebrating marine heritage, sustainability, and competitive fishing, the championship is co-organised by Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and ADMSC. It is part of the larger Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfish Championship, and will kick off from three strategic coastal locations — Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Marfa, and Delma Island.
More than just a fishing contest, the championship is a cultural and community event. It aims to preserve the UAE’s marine traditions while promoting tourism and youth engagement. The prize pool will be shared among the top 60 participants, rewarding skill and strategy across both amateur and professional levels.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that the tournament reflects the Marine Sports Club’s vision to support traditional marine sports, while offering a structured and professional environment for fishing enthusiasts. He also noted that it creates opportunities for youth and reinforces Abu Dhabi’s standing as a global destination for sports and culture.
The event not only fosters fair competition, but also aligns with Abu Dhabi’s goals of economic diversification, environmental awareness, and community engagement. With cash, culture, and conservation all in play, this championship offers more than just the thrill of the catch — it’s a celebration of heritage in action.
