ABU DHABI: The UAE Wrestling Federation has launched a new strategy to transform wrestling in the country, aligning with the UAE’s vision to promote sports, engage youth, and build a globally competitive generation.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Rotana Yas Island Hotel, attended by key officials, including Mouza Al Ali, Sultan Al Ketbi, Nasser Khamis Al Marri, and Tariq Al Bahri. The initiative focuses on strengthening wrestling at the grassroots and professional levels.
The strategy includes:
• Competitive tournaments: The UAE Wrestling Federation Cup will be held on February 22-23 at Mubadala Arena, featuring 300 athletes from various clubs and academies.
• Community expansion: The number of wrestling clubs has increased from five to 12, with a goal of reaching 15 by year-end. The Federation also aims to introduce 10 schools to the sport in its first year.
• Coaching development: Recruitment of top local and international coaches, with training programs based on global best practices.
• Digital transformation: Introduction of electronic registration and live streaming, enhancing accessibility and engagement.
• Strategic partnerships: Collaborations with government and private entities to develop talent and prepare athletes for Olympic-level competition.
Officials highlighted wrestling’s growth and the importance of strategic investment. Sultan Al Ketbi emphasized digital transformation and elite training, while Nasser Khamis Al Marri confirmed Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s support in advancing wrestling’s reach. Tariq Al Bahri reiterated IVSM’s commitment to talent development.
During the event, the Federation signed Memorandums of Understanding with IVSM and a cooperation agreement with Khorfakkan Club to boost sports infrastructure.
