SHARJAH: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, has approved the designs and location for the new Sports City in Sharjah. This upcoming city will include four sports complexes that will accommodate both team and individual sports. The announcement was made by Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Head of the Sharjah Department of Public Works, during an interview on Sharjah Radio and Television.

Sheikh Sultan personally designed the city, which features a central square with four main roads leading to it. These roads connect Al Madam, Al Badayer, Mahafiz and Al Bataeh, and Sharjah Sports City. At the heart of this square will be the “Sports City Stadium,” which is the first phase of the project. The stadium is designed to resemble a bird soaring over sand dunes, with a platform and grandstand that mimic the surrounding landscape. The stadium’s large cover changes colour with the time of day, appearing silver in the morning and golden-red at night.

The design is environmentally friendly and symbolises the attributes of an athlete, like a falcon’s sharp eyesight and strength. The stadium is built to host local, regional, and international sports events. Al Suwaidi added that the detailed designs will be completed quickly, and construction will start soon to make the stadium available for athletes and sports clubs in the emirate.
