FUJAIRAH: The 12th Fujairah International Open Taekwondo Championship G2 has officially entered the Guinness World Records, setting a new milestone with 2,332 participants, including 10 Olympians, some of whom will compete in the Paris 2024 Games.
Held at the Zayed Sports Complex and hosted by the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, the five-day championship welcomed over 2,600 athletes, breaking the previous record for participation. This achievement reinforces Fujairah’s growing reputation as a global hub for martial arts.
Established 12 years ago under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the championship began with just 150 participants. It has since evolved into one of the world’s most prestigious taekwondo events, reflecting the Crown Prince’s vision to position Fujairah as an international sporting destination.
Nader Abu Al Shaweesh, Director of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, expressed his joy at the championship’s Guinness World Records recognition. He praised the club’s dedicated team for ensuring the event met the highest international standards.
The Fujairah Taekwondo Championship continues to attract elite athletes and promote the sport globally, further solidifying the UAE’s place on the world’s martial arts map.
