Dipa Karmakar made history as the first Indian gymnast to clinch a gold medal at the Asian Senior Championships.

She outperformed North Koreans Kim Son Hyang (13.466) and Jo Kyong Byol (12.966), securing an average of 13.566 in the women’s vault final in Uzbekistan.

Previously, Dipa had won bronze in the 2015 Asian Championships and narrowly missed a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

This triumph adds to her remarkable accomplishments, including a gold medal at the 2018 FIG World Cup in Turkey.

Notably, her victory is even more remarkable given her return to competition this year after serving a controversial 21-month suspension for doping.
