Lord’s Cricket Ground, often referred to as the “Home of Cricket,” has a storied history that dates back to the late 18th century. Established in 1787 by Thomas Lord, a bowler and businessman, the ground has become one of the most iconic venues in the world of cricket. Originally located in Dorset Square, London, the ground was moved twice before settling in its current location in St John’s Wood in 1814. Over the years, Lord’s has been the site of countless historic matches, including the first-ever Test match played in England in 1884, and it has played a central role in the development of the sport globally.
The Pavilion at Lord’s, with its famous Long Room, and the iconic Victorian-era Father Time weather vane are symbols of its rich tradition. The ground is not just a cricket venue but a living museum, housing the MCC Museum, which includes the Ashes urn, one of the sport’s most celebrated artifacts. Lord’s has witnessed the evolution of cricket from its early days to the modern era, hosting numerous World Cup finals and being a hallowed ground for players and fans alike. Today, it remains a revered venue, where the history and spirit of cricket are preserved and celebrated.
