DUBAI: Seventeen-year-old British swimmer Barnaby Ryder has made history by successfully swimming around The World Islands, covering 27 kilometres in 7 hours, 32 minutes, and 12 seconds. His incredible endurance feat marks him as the youngest swimmer to complete this challenging route.

The event was organised by the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), which provided full logistical and safety support. A dedicated team ensured medical supervision, while DIMC officials honoured Ryder’s achievement with a shield and an achievement medal at the finish line.

A passion fuelled by Dubai’s waters

Having lived in Dubai for 10 years, Ryder has developed a strong passion for swimming, inspired by his father’s guidance. He has previously participated in the Jumeirah Ocean Swim Series and other open-water events, gradually building his stamina for long-distance challenges.

Ryder’s journey to this achievement was not just about endurance—it was about patience and persistence. He first dreamed of tackling extreme swims at the age of 12, but his family encouraged him to wait until he turned 17 before attempting such a demanding feat.

Eyeing the English Channel next

Speaking about his success, Ryder expressed his excitement: “This achievement is a dream come true. Swimming around The World Islands has been my goal for a long time. Completing it gives me confidence as I prepare for my next big challenge—crossing the English Channel in June.”

With this accomplishment, Ryder has set the stage for even greater ambitions, proving himself as a rising star in the world of endurance swimming.
