NEW DELHI: India will celebrate its first National Space Day on 23rd August 2024, marking a significant achievement in space exploration. The day honours the success of Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission, which achieved a historic soft landing of the Vikram Lander on the Moon’s surface on 23rd August 2023. According to an Asian News International (ANI) report, India became the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first to do so near the lunar southern polar region.
In recognition of this milestone, the Indian government has designated 23rd August as “National Space Day.” This new celebration aims to acknowledge and commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and inspire future generations in the fields of space science and technology.
Across the country, various events will be held to mark the occasion. The Department of Fisheries (DoF) will play a key role by organising seminars and exhibitions focused on how space technologies can be applied within the fisheries sector. These activities are intended to raise awareness about the benefits of space technology and its practical applications.
