DUBAI: The Google News Initiative (GNI) and FT Strategies have concluded the AI Design Sprint MENA programme in collaboration with the UAE Media Council and Saudi Ministry of Media. Held at Google’s Innovation Hub in Dubai Internet City, the programme focused on empowering media professionals to leverage AI tools for innovation and growth in the MENA region’s media sector.

The event featured expert-led workshops and discussions, attended by Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, and key regional media figures. The initiative aimed to enhance the region’s media and publishing capabilities by promoting the effective use of AI in news production, content creation, and operational efficiency.

Maitha Majed Al Suwaidi, CEO of Strategy and Media Policy at the UAE Media Council, stated, “This programme supports our goal to create an innovative and forward-thinking media landscape. By leveraging Google’s AI capabilities and FT Strategies’ publishing expertise, we aim to strengthen the region’s media sector with future-ready skills.”

The programme’s workshops provided participants with hands-on experience in identifying AI-driven opportunities, mitigating risks, and developing AI-based solutions. Participants also shared ideas and gained access to tools and resources essential for AI strategy development.
