DUBAI: Digital Dubai is taking practical steps to implement the Strategic Vision for the Data Centre Economy in Dubai, in collaboration with government and private sector partners. This vision, approved by The Executive Council, aims to make Dubai a leader in future economies supported by emerging technologies. It aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to boost Dubai’s economic productivity by 50% through digital innovation.

Digital Dubai’s analysis identified significant opportunities for collaboration to attract and establish AI-powered data centres, making Dubai appealing for such investments. The study shows that this strategic vision will generate over AED14.3 billion in added value by 2028 and create numerous job opportunities in the digital economy.

This strategy is expected to enhance Dubai’s readiness for next-generation technologies like Web 3.0, the Metaverse, Smart Cities, and the Internet of Things, while strengthening partnerships in sustainable artificial intelligence.

Digital Dubai is working closely with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Municipality, the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Their coordinated efforts aim to prepare Dubai for the future economy and solidify its leading position in this field.

Key initiatives include developing high-performance computing, advanced data centres, increased reliance on renewable energy, and streamlining government procedures related to energy and planning.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director-General of Digital Dubai, highlighted the UAE’s competitive advantages, making it a global leader in sustainable data centres. “The digital economy in Dubai is crucial to the digital strategy, aiming to increase its contribution to the overall economy by $100 billion.”

Younus Al Nasser, Chief Executive of the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, noted that new economic patterns and business models offer future opportunities for dynamic economies like Dubai’s. The data centre economy exemplifies these transformations.

Hadi Badri, CEO of the Dubai Economic Development Corporation, praised the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ensuring Dubai remains at the forefront of the global digital economy. “Preparing Dubai for next-generation technologies fosters innovation and unlocks significant economic potential, aligned with the D33 Agenda goals.”

The next phase will enhance integration among stakeholders in the data centre economy, with Digital Dubai working to increase cloud computing adoption in the government sector.
