Elon Musk’s Neuralink has received FDA approval to attempt a second brain chip implantation using a revised method.

The initial implant in January had issues, with 85% of the device’s ultra-thin threads detaching from the cortex of the brain of the first subject, quadriplegic Noland Arbaugh.

The new method aims to insert the threads 3-5 millimeters deeper for enchanced stability. Over 1,000 quadriplegics have applied, however, less than 100 meet the study’s criteria.

Neuralink, introduced by Elon Musk, plans to implant 10 chips this year.
