DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a major upgrade to the Trade Centre Roundabout, investing AED 696.414 million to transform this crucial intersection. This project aligns with the city’s ongoing plans to enhance road networks and public transport infrastructure to keep up with urban growth.
The Trade Centre Roundabout connects Sheikh Zayed Road with several key roads, and the planned changes will make it a surface-level intersection with five new bridges, spanning a total of 5,000 metres. These improvements will make traffic flow smoother, particularly for those traveling between Sheikh Zayed Road, 2nd December Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, and other nearby areas.
A broader plan includes additional upgrades to neighbouring streets. This project is expected to double the intersection’s capacity, significantly cut waiting times, and reduce travel times for motorists. For instance, the time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street will go down from six minutes to just one.
The project will benefit key locations like the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), a prominent venue for international events, as well as the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). It also serves neighbourhoods such as Zabeel, Al Satwa, and Karama, helping over half a million residents and visitors.

New Bridges for Smoother Traffic
The project includes:
- A two-lane bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, handling up to 3,000 vehicles per hour.
- Two two-lane bridges connecting Sheikh Rashid Street with 2nd December Street, accommodating 6,000 vehicles per hour.
- Two additional two-lane bridges linking Al Majles Street to 2nd December Street, also handling 6,000 vehicles per hour.
These new bridges and road adjustments aim to reduce travel times, improve road efficiency, and enhance the flow of traffic for both daily commuters and visitors.
