DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed sustainable street lighting projects in Umm Suqeim 1, Abu Hail, and Al Baraha, marking a milestone in its 2024–2026 Street Lighting Plan. By 2026, RTA aims to illuminate 40 areas across Dubai, aligning with the city’s growth and infrastructure modernisation goals.

This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to creating vibrant and secure neighbourhoods for residents and visitors while addressing urban expansion. Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, noted that smart and innovative lighting technologies are tailored for UAE conditions to enhance traffic safety and sustainability.

In these completed areas, RTA has installed 959 poles, 1,010 eco-friendly LED lighting units, and laid 47,140 metres of underground cables. These modern systems ensure improved road safety for pedestrians and vehicles while reducing energy consumption.

RTA is also progressing with street lighting in other areas, including Mirdif, Umm Suqeim 2 and 3, Al Manara, and Oud Metha, among others. This phase involves installing 763 poles, 764 LED units, and laying 48,170 metres of underground cables. Further enhancements are planned for Al Safa 1 and 2, Al Satwa, Al Hudaiba, and Jumeirah, among others.

Al Banna highlighted that these efforts contribute to Dubai’s sustainability goals and will continue through 2025 and 2026. By integrating advanced energy-efficient technologies, the RTA is actively enhancing Dubai’s infrastructure while supporting its vision to remain a global leader in urban development.

These lighting projects not only modernise the city’s infrastructure but also strengthen its appeal as a safe, vibrant, and sustainable metropolis.
