DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its Bus-On-Demand service to include Oud Metha and Barsha Heights, addressing growing demand for efficient, cost-effective transport solutions in Dubai.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said: “The Bus-On-Demand service is a seamless, efficient mobility solution, crucial in a rapidly growing city. The expansion enhances traffic flow while remaining cost-effective at just AED 5 per trip.”

RTA has now extended the service to 10 key areas across the emirate. Originally available in locations like Al Barsha, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Al Nahda, it was expanded to Business Bay in early 2024 and Downtown Dubai at the end of the year.

With strong demand from commuters, the expansion strengthens Dubai’s public transport network, offering a faster, safer, and more convenient travel experience. The service efficiently connects residential areas with key public transport stations, making daily commutes more seamless.

The smart, app-based system allows users to request a ride, plan their route, and pay fares digitally. The 13-seater mini-buses operate within designated zones, with drivers communicating via the app to ensure efficient pick-ups and drop-offs.

Before launching the expansion, RTA conducted comprehensive surveys, considering factors like user demographics, mobility options, walking distances, affordability, and global best practices from Spain, Germany, the US, and Finland.

The Bus-On-Demand service can be accessed via the Dubai Bus-On-Demand app, available on Apple Store and Google Play, offering on-demand, first- and last-mile connectivity for commuters across the city.
