DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully implemented Dubai traffic improvements at over 50 locations in 2024, easing congestion, boosting road efficiency, and improving safety across the city.
These enhancements align with Dubai’s rapid urban growth and the government’s vision to position the emirate as a global leader in mobility. By introducing strategic road upgrades, RTA has improved traffic flow, cut travel times by up to 60%, and increased road capacity by 20% in key areas.
According to Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, major improvements included widening Beirut Street, upgrading the Al Khawaneej Street-Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street intersection, and expanding the exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street. These measures optimised vehicle movement and eased congestion on major roads.
RTA also focused on school zone traffic, completing eight projects covering 37 schools. This included road expansions, additional parking, and new traffic diversions, improving peak-hour flow by 20%. Schools benefiting from these upgrades include Kings’ School, The International School of Choueifat – Dubai, and Dubai College, alongside institutions in Al Safa, Al Warqa 4, and Al Mizhar.
To accommodate rising traffic, Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street was extended by 600 metres, boosting capacity to 4,500 vehicles per hour and reducing travel time from 10 minutes to 4 minutes.
Looking ahead, RTA plans 75 new traffic projects for 2025, ensuring Dubai remains at the forefront of infrastructure excellence and seamless mobility.
