DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced it will open a new entry and exit point to Al Warqa directly from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road next week, marking a key milestone in Dubai’s urban mobility upgrades. The development is expected to ease access, increase road capacity by 5,000 vehicles per hour, and reduce travel time by 80%, from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes.

The project will also shorten the average trip distance from 5.7 km to 1.5 km. It forms part of a broader internal road development scheme in Al Warqa, spanning 8 km, and is designed to enhance daily traffic flow, especially for residents and school commuters.

RTA has completed improvement works on Street 13 in Al Warqa 1 and introduced additional infrastructure including 150 new parking spaces near key schools such as the School of Research Science and GEMS Royal Dubai School, easing congestion and reducing delays by up to 50%.

Ongoing upgrades in Al Warqa 3 and 4 include paving, the creation of pedestrian walkways and parking areas, and over 23 km of cycling tracks, aimed at promoting sustainable and active mobility.

Later this year, the next phase will see the transformation of roundabouts into smart signalised junctions in Al Warqa 1, expected to improve traffic flow by 30%. In Al Warqa 4, roads supporting the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment’s 136 residential villas have already been completed, with added features such as pedestrian paths, lighting systems, and a 7.4 km cycling track.

The RTA reaffirmed its commitment to building integrated road networks in residential districts that support Dubai’s growth and sustainability goals. It also highlighted its engagement with Al Warqa residents through community sessions, ensuring public feedback directly informs future infrastructure planning.

These ongoing enhancements reflect Dubai’s vision of becoming a smart, accessible city that places quality of life and sustainable transport at its core.
