DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a AED 798 million contract for the Al Qudra Street Development Project, a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity across key Dubai neighbourhoods.

The project spans 11.6 kilometres, starting from the intersection of Al Qudra Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and extending to Emirates Road. The upgrade includes 2,700 metres of new bridges, upgraded interchanges, and additional lanes to accommodate growing traffic demands.

Faster travel, better connectivity

The expanded road network will reduce travel time from 9.4 minutes to just 2.8 minutes, benefiting around 400,000 residents and visitors in communities like Arabian Ranches, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Akoya, Mudon, DAMAC Hills, and The Sustainable City.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, stated:

“This project will significantly ease congestion, improve road safety, and enhance Dubai’s urban infrastructure. It will provide direct connectivity to key development zones while boosting economic activity.”

Key upgrades and expansions

• A 600-metre bridge at the Arabian Ranches-Dubai Studio City intersection, increasing road capacity from 6,600 to 19,200 vehicles per hour.

• A 700-metre bridge at Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, with seven lanes in both directions and auxiliary ramps for smooth traffic flow.

• Additional bridges of 500 metres and 900 metres to streamline access to Jebel Ali, Downtown Dubai, and Dubai International Airport.

Service roads spanning 3 kilometres to improve local traffic movement.

• The extension of Al Qudra Street from Emirates Road to Town Square, Mira, and DAMAC Hills 2, ensuring seamless access for growing communities.

Set for phased completion, the project will enhance road capacity, reduce congestion, and support Dubai’s rapid urban expansion.
