UAE’s commitment to sustainability reinforced on National Environment Day
ABU DHABI: Environmental sustainability is deeply rooted in the UAE’s culture, values, and traditions, affirmed Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).
Speaking on the 28th UAE National Environment Day, celebrated under the theme “Our Roots, Our Future”, Al Dhaheri highlighted the country’s unwavering dedication to environmental conservation, a legacy instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
She credited the UAE’s leadership, particularly President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for making sustainability a national duty, ensuring that environmental protection is passed down through generations.
EAD continues to implement strategic projects aimed at minimising environmental impact and preserving Abu Dhabi’s natural resources. These initiatives include conserving freshwater reserves, setting air quality benchmarks, and protecting biodiversity across land and sea. The goal is to maintain a clean, healthy environment that enhances overall quality of life.
Al Dhaheri stressed that collaboration is key to fostering meaningful change. “Joint efforts and shared responsibility are crucial in creating a sustainable future for the next generations,” she noted.
UAE National Environment Day, observed annually on February 4, reaffirms the nation’s commitment to environmental responsibility. It serves as a reminder to support conservation efforts, raise awareness, and drive sustainable innovation.
With Abu Dhabi emerging as a global leader in sustainability, the UAE continues to align its environmental strategies with international conservation goals, ensuring a greener, more sustainable future.
