Lebanon puts up a Christmas tree made of 108,000 plastic bottles

Lebanon: In celebration of the jolly season, an Eco-friendly Christmas tree was lit by the banks of Lake Bnachii, Zgharta District, as part of the “Christmas by the Lake” festival.

After a two-year absence, the festival took part in the presence of Lebanese officials and environmental activists who put up the tree, including world-record breaker Caroline Chaptini and Festival Director Pierre Ziadeh.

For its fifteenth edition, the organizers introduced a Christmas tree made of approximately 110,000 plastic bottles, a plastic-covered cave, and a giant globe made of 105,000 plastic layers, reflecting on the environmental message, “We don’t have Planet B.”

The festival’s primary goal is also to highlight the importance of recycling, as the tree was built in the shape of an emerald, showing that plastic has become a nuisance in the waste crisis.
“For the people and the planet, we will celebrate sustainably, and the plastic will be donated for a good cause after the festive season,” the organizers expressed on Instagram.

It is worth noting that the “Christmas by the Lake” event will be taking place until January 10, 2022, and will host many activities, including kids-friendly dance plays and performances marking the holiday season.
