SHARJAH: The Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre has officially joined Wetlands Link International (WLI), strengthening Sharjah’s efforts in wetland conservation and environmental education. This global network supports over 350 wetland education centres worldwide, promoting sustainability and biodiversity.
The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) secured this prestigious membership for Khor Kalba in recognition of its role in preserving wetlands and educating the public. The centre actively raises awareness through initiatives, outreach programmes, and collaborations with international conservation bodies.
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the EPAA, highlighted that this milestone aligns with Sharjah’s vision for sustainability, led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi. She emphasised the EPAA’s leadership in environmental education and its commitment to fostering global partnerships for wetland preservation.
The WLI membership provides the centre access to specialist training, research collaborations, and knowledge-sharing platforms, reinforcing its role in climate change mitigation and marine biodiversity protection. This follows the successful inclusion of the Wasit Wetland Centre in the network in February 2024, further solidifying Sharjah’s global environmental standing.
