Green Bus Services launched in Abu Dhabi
Fri 13 Sep 2024ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre has launched a new Green Bus service powered by hydrogen and electric energy, marking a big step toward a sustainable future. This is part of the Green Bus Programme, which aims to turn Abu Dhabi Island into a green public transport zone by 2030.
The new buses will run on Route 65 between Marina Mall and Shams Boutik on Al Reem Island. The programme is focused on finding the best green technologies for public transport, with the goal of offering eco-friendly options for residents and visitors.
The initiative involves collaboration with international partners, and special training for Emirati workers in hydrogen and electric bus technology, including hands-on training in South Korea and China.
The Green Bus Programme will assess the performance of these buses until June 2025, with bus drivers and technicians receiving extensive training. As the fleet transitions from diesel to renewable energy, Abu Dhabi aims to cut more than 100,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
