The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has initiated a series of environmental volunteer initiatives to foster environmental responsibility and help combat climate change, encouraging community members to actively contribute to sustainability.

Rasha Ali Al Madfai, Acting Director of the Environmental Awareness Department at EAD, stated that environmental care is a shared commitment. “We aim to equip the next generation with tools to understand and advocate for sustainability,” she said. Through the “Naha” platform, EAD translates environmental intentions into impactful actions, inviting youth and community members to engage in practical activities that promote best sustainable practices.

Volunteer Programmes Include:

  1. Murshed Youth Rangers Programme: Sponsored by TotalEnergies, the second phase has young participants volunteering in eco-activities, such as at Jubail Mangrove Park and Al Wathba Wetland Reserve. This programme, in collaboration with local education institutions, empowers students aged 14-17 to explore conservation roles and environmental education.
  2. Green Citizen Programme: This initiative offers citizens and residents opportunities to protect Abu Dhabi’s natural heritage. Recently, 68 new volunteers joined, contributing to clean-up drives and learning about EAD’s awareness efforts.
  3. Green Experts Programme: This network connects 287 environmental experts to support EAD’s projects and events. Participants share expertise through workshops, lectures, and knowledge-sharing sessions, enhancing community awareness on complex environmental issues.
  4. Green Youth Majlis: Founded in 2015 as part of the Sustainable Universities Initiative, this council of youth aged 18-35 empowers members to lead environmental initiatives. With over 650 members, the Majlis has facilitated activities like beach clean-ups, educational workshops, and sessions on sustainable policies, such as reducing single-use plastics.
