DUBAI: Talabat, the leading on-demand delivery platform in the MENA region, has successfully acquired InstaShop for $32 million, a move that further solidifies its grocery and retail offerings. This acquisition, which was announced on Thursday, enables Talabat to fully integrate InstaShop as a subsidiary and expand its reach across the region. This strategic purchase marks an exciting development for Talabat, enhancing its position in the fast-growing online grocery sector. InstaShop, a well-known online grocery delivery marketplace, was previously owned by Delivery Hero SE.
The acquisition of InstaShop strengthens Talabat’s grocery and retail division, with the platform now set to exceed $2.5 billion in pro forma gross merchandise value (GMV) for 2024. Following the deal, InstaShop will continue to operate independently as part of Talabat’s grocery division, further amplifying the convenience and choice it provides to customers. The deal was fully funded through Talabat’s internal cash reserves, making it a strategic, cash-efficient move.
Founded in June 2015 and based in Dubai, InstaShop has become a major player in the online grocery market across the UAE and Egypt, offering products ranging from groceries to pharmacy and personal care items. In 2024, InstaShop posted an impressive GMV of $631 million, marking a 16% year-on-year growth. Talabat’s CEO, Tomaso Rodriguez, expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the synergies between the two platforms, which will provide customers with a seamless and enhanced delivery experience.
The acquisition is expected to leverage Talabat’s extensive network and operational expertise, enabling both platforms to grow further and offer even more convenient services to their users.
