BEIJING: China’s courier sector has quickly surpassed 100 billion parcels this year, reaching the milestone 71 days earlier than last year. This reflects a booming consumer market and strong economic performance.
The sector handled an average of 71.43 packages per person, or 5,144 packages every second. It has set new records for single-day deliveries, monthly volumes, and revenue, with monthly revenue exceeding 100 billion yuan (about 14 billion U.S. dollars).
China’s logistics network is highly efficient, reaching even remote areas with 234,000 delivery points and covering over 95% of villages. This summer, the system enabled next-day delivery of seasonal fruits from far-off regions.
Technological advancements have further improved efficiency, with drones delivering packages in about 10 minutes in some cities, and autonomous vehicles reducing delivery times.
China’s main competitors in the global courier and logistics industry include:
- United States: Companies like FedEx, UPS, and Amazon dominate the courier and logistics market, offering extensive delivery networks and advanced technology.
- Europe: Major players such as DHL (Germany), DPD (France), and Royal Mail (UK) are significant competitors, with strong presence and innovations in delivery services across Europe.
- Japan: Japan Post and Yamato Transport are key competitors in the Asia-Pacific region, known for their efficient and reliable logistics services.
- South Korea: Companies like CJ Logistics and Hyundai Glovis are prominent in the logistics sector, with growing influence in the regional market.
These competitors challenge China’s courier sector with their own advanced technologies, extensive networks, and global reach.
