ABU DHABI: The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has ramped up market inspections to fight tax evasion and ensure compliance. In the first half of 2024, the FTA conducted 40,580 inspections across the UAE included tobacco products, a 134% increase from the same period in 2023. These visits focus on enforcing tax laws, preventing the sale of non-compliant products, and protecting consumer rights.
FTA Director-General Khalid Ali Al Bustani highlighted the Authority’s efforts to strengthen oversight and collaboration with federal and local entities. Sara AlHabshi, Executive Director of the Tax Affairs Sector, noted that advanced monitoring systems like the Digital Tax Stamps have significantly improved compliance.

In H1 2024, 7.26 million non-compliant products were seized, with a 256% rise in violations detected. The number of compliant establishments also doubled compared to the previous year. The FTA issued 1,330 registration notices to non-compliant businesses, showing marked improvement in compliance levels.
