ABU DHABI: ADNOC has awarded a $490 million (AED 1.79 billion) contract to BGP Inc., a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Company (CNPC), to expand its massive 3D seismic survey in Abu Dhabi. This project, already the world’s largest of its kind, spans both onshore and offshore areas, and the new phase will focus on further exploring ADNOC’s producing onshore oil and gas fields.
This contract includes advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, aimed at enhancing data interpretation speed and optimizing resource recovery. By leveraging AI, ADNOC and BGP will improve the efficiency of existing infrastructure, increasing the output from Abu Dhabi’s productive fields while prioritizing technological innovation.
A significant part of the contract’s value, over 70%, will be reinvested in the UAE’s economy under ADNOC’s In-Country Value (ICV) program. This move not only bolsters local economic growth but also strengthens ADNOC’s standing as a responsible energy provider globally, committed to supporting the UAE’s industrial and economic development.
Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, ADNOC Upstream Executive Director, highlighted the role of cutting-edge technologies, stating, “ADNOC’s investment in this 3D Mega Seismic Survey underlines the importance of advanced technologies in maximizing resource potential, ensuring we meet global energy needs responsibly while reinforcing the UAE’s long-term role as a reliable energy supplier.”

ADNOC’s 3D Mega Seismic Survey, launched in 2018, covers a massive 85,000 square kilometers, making it the largest continuous seismic survey worldwide. Designed to deliver highly detailed 3D seismic data, this project gives ADNOC a deeper understanding of Abu Dhabi’s complex geological formations. With this expansion, ADNOC aims to harness even more of the UAE’s energy potential, ensuring sustainable development and long-term supply stability. The survey’s success reflects ADNOC’s strategic commitment to using advanced technology for resource exploration and sustainable growth, setting the UAE on a strong path as a global energy leader.
